An Impromptu and Overdue Family Night

We have not had an official "Family Night" since our two weeks in China.  Every night was Family Night  there and it was wonderful.   We are together as a family each night,  we go out to eat together and attend church on Sunday mornings but when you have a 16 year old and 2 year old there isn't a lot you can do that will make everyone happy.  It's not like we can go out to a movie or play board games with an age difference like that.  But last night it happened.  It had not been planned but it came together wonderfully.  It started with Sophie receiving an early birthday present.  Her sweet little friend Lydia gave her a Cinderella play set.  Sophie has never seen the movie.  We have it on VHS (it was Madison's when he was little) but I don't have a VCR anymore.  I really wanted her to see it especially the song Bippity Boppity Boo because she does her dance routine to this song at ballet.  Madison wanted to get a CD of his favorite band, A Day To Remember, but when he stopped at Walmart after school they didn't have it.

I told him I would take him out to buy the CD and then I had the idea to call the Book & Music Exchange to see if they had a used copy of Cinderella.  Sure enough they had one and held it for me.  We now had a plan forming.  We would go to Bardstown Rd.,  hit the BME, then stop at Ear Extacy and get Madison's CD.  While there ,we would eat at Camden's and Madison's favorite, Sky Line Chili.

After returning home, we watched Cinderella go to the Ball, then watched a movie Madison got from his  Aunt D, Hot Rod.  It was a wonderful night and I loved having my family all to myself.  No cell phones,  computers or ball games.  Just the four of us.  When we said goodbye to Jacob last week,  I was made acutely aware that our time with Madison as we have had him will be coming to an end in the next few years.   He is becoming a man and will be leaving us.  I want Sophie to have a  lot of wonderful  memories with him.  Last night was a good start.
